Suffering is apart of life.

Suffering (noun): the state of undergoing pain, distress, or hardship.

Why do we diminish our suffering?

Why do we try to okay the suffering we have encountered in our lives?

As I have been going through this topic of suffering in this week’s Bible study lesson I have realized that we all have pain from the different season of life. And if we do not deal with the suffering then the fire will consume us and destroy our lives.

Dealing with the pain is not about making ourselves feel worse instead it is about using the fire to shine His light in the world.

We diminish our capacity to be apart of healing when we deny the pain from our past. Even the pain we may have caused ourselves based on our poor decisions. This pain can be used for a greater good but, first we must face the pain head on.

Uprooted.

Unworthy.

Addicted.

Assaulted.

Abandoned.

The labels of our past can only have power over us if we allow them to stay stuck in the dark. These labels above may be apart of me but, they do NOT define me. These labels may have left a scar on my heart but, they can NOT hold me back from living my passion. These labels are only a small piece of the puzzle and only tell one part of my story.

Owning who we are is apart of growth and discovery. Learning to heal from our past will bring us to a place of understanding. Allowing the fire to be used to shine in the darkness of this world will help others heal and move forward.

The shame of decisions I made in my past can no longer hold me back.

The broken relationships from my past can no longer hold me captive.

The fear of letting someone down can no longer keep me from sharing my story.

Despite my own resolve to heal alone in the dark places I know when I share my pain that the freshness of the choices I have made in my past can finally escape the dark places of my mind. Allow the story to see the light of day releasing it from captivity. Allowing Father to use the pain to comfort someone else in pain is worth the pain itself.

But, first we have to be willing to go there. We have to be willing to journey into the depths of our hearts and minds to release these memories from captivity. We have to stop fearing judgment and ridicule. We have to stop fearing what “they” will say about us because when we release and let it all go we can heal and grow. We can finally become who God created us to be in this world.
