Good Enough

imageFighting to understand your calling in life is hard enough without being told you are not good enough. Even though those words are not actually spoken. Instead “they” quote Paul and reference the church of Acts to disqualify and deter you from pressing on with your passion for leading and teaching.

The struggle to redefine women in today’s world still seems strange to me. Women are in the military. Women are running Fortune 500 companies. Women are juggling marriage, families and careers. Yet, the struggle is still prevalent in everyday life.

When I joined the military straight out of high school I never thought I would have to fight the glass ceiling. But, the reality is there was and still are limitations for women in the military.

The more I adapted and overcame the obstacles the more I achieved and accomplished. The struggle gave me reason to fight, learn, grow and work to prove my worth.

Never in a million years did I think I would be fighting for a dream God birthed in me in my early twenties. I began to hide my passion. I prayed for God to take it away. And I even tried to force my husband forward to become who God created me to be in our family and community.

It makes no sense to some but, then I read these words this morning: But, that’s the thing about God- he chooses people like you and me, those who, by the world’s standards, aren’t good enough.” -Dr. Jackie Roese, Lime Green: Reshaping Our View of Women in the Church

The more I fought to be seen and heard the further I distanced myself from being apart of the church. The more I tried to fit into the box of women’s ministry the more I wanted to bang my head against the wall.

What if, I stopped fighting it?

What if I began to embrace this calling and decided to fully surrender it to God?

But first; I need to settle my relationship with the building. I need to embrace a season of settling and growth. I need to surrender my past and be made new.

All this comes from the God who settled the relationship between us and him, and then called us to settle our relationships with each other. God put the world square with himself through the Messiah, giving the world a fresh start by offering forgiveness of sins. God has given us the task of telling everyone what he is doing. We’re Christ’s representatives. God uses us to persuade men and women to drop their differences and enter into God’s work of making things right between them. We’re speaking for Christ himself now: Become friends with God; he’s already a friend with you. -2 Corinthians 5:17-20 The Message

The settling is less unsettling than I thought possible. It is more of an exploration of how to be apart of a movement within our community. My hopes are dreams have laid dormant for long enough… it’s time to embrace this journey fully surrendered to the possibilities with God leading the way.

What dreams have been birthed in you?

Is there something holding you back from taking the necessary steps forward?

God has limitless possibilities waiting for you to tap into today. Go forth and make disciples. Lead and teach. Dream and believe. Because anything is possible with Him leading the way.
